The core function of a small DC circuit breaker is to monitor the circuit status via its internal sensitive components.
When faults such as overload or short circuit occur, it quickly cuts off the circuit to provide protection.

Can DC circuit breakers be used for AC?
In emergency situations, a DC circuit breaker can be temporarily used to replace an AC circuit breaker.
However, from the perspective of protection accuracy and cost-effectiveness, an AC circuit breaker matching the circuit type must be used for long-term operation.
This is because the arc extinguishing capability of a DC circuit breaker is higher than that of an AC circuit breaker, and the protection curve of a DC circuit breaker (the action threshold and delay of overload and short-circuit protection) is designed for DC loads, which differs from the protection characteristics of an AC circuit breaker.
Using a DC circuit breaker in an AC circuit for extended periods may result in inaccurate protection actions. Furthermore, the manufacturing cost of a DC circuit breaker is significantly higher than that of an AC circuit breaker of the same specifications.
Therefore, while a DC circuit breaker can be temporarily used in an AC circuit, it is not recommended for long-term or rated operating conditions.
